ABOUT THE PRODUCERS

Our Brazil component comes from the Cocatrel Cooperative, which was founded in 1961 in Tres Pontas and has grown into the second-largest cooperative in Brazil. It has over 6,000 members with 11 different buying points across the region. All the coffee is electronically tagged and recorded on delivery with a unique QR code, giving full traceability.

‘Castanhas do Brasil’, which translates as "Nuts of Brazil", is a blend made mainly from one particular area called Carmo De Cachoeira. The coffee is selected for its sweet and creamy hazelnut praline profile by the cupping team in the Cocatrel Direct Lab, who assign it to this profile blend. The coffee must have a clean profile and be scoring 83+ on evaluation.

Our Guatemala component comes from the El Cabro plot on the Finca La Bolsa farm.

Finca La Bolsa was bought by Jorge Vides, a distinguished medical professional, in 1958. Prior to this, the land was not used for coffee production. Jorge won numerous awards for coffee production and for his services to the Huehuetenango region, and the main hospital in the coffee-growing community was named after him. In 2002, La Bolsa competed in the Cup of Excellence competition and placed second, scoring 94.98.

La Bolsa sits between two mountains, which provide a very stable, humid microclimate. Combined with the limestone-rich soils, this gives the coffee a unique profile, with a rich, syrupy body and plenty of malic and citric acidity.
